Compensation: $28.49 - 30.18 - 31.89 per hour
Hours of work: This position works a standard 40 hour
work week.
This position is required to work various shifts, locations and
days off.
There are also opportunities to work day shifts and have
weekends off.
Business Unit Information:
Calgary Transit carries over 89 million customers each year. The
organization plans, designs and operates Calgary's public
transportation system including a growing fleet of buses, LRT
network and accessible public transportation for people with
disabilities.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Coordinator of
Spring Gardens Maintenance, the primary duties of this position
include:
- design, build, repair, modify, paint, re-finish and adjust all
types of wooden and metal automotive bodies including trucks,
buses, automobiles, LRV's, auxiliary units and accessories;
- work includes brush and spray painting, gas welding, cutting,
sawing, filling, forming, sanding, filing, smoothing, riveting,
reinforcing, upholstering, glass installation, and related body
shop tasks;
- use and operate a wide variety of power and hand tools and
paint spray equipment in accordance with blueprints, patterns,
or specification manuals;
- apply tools including hand and power grinders, sanders, saws,
files, hammers, dollies, buffers, porto-power jacks, drills,
riveting guns, oxy-acetylene welding equipment, etc.;
- use materials such as wood, metals, solders, fillers,
plastics, lead, paints, cleaners, and solvents, etc.
The physical job demands for this position include: repetitive
walking, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling and hand and wrist
movement; working with a variety of light and heavy tools and
equipment in standing, bending, laying, crouching and above the
shoulder positions; good balance, hearing, vision and alertness;
and the ability to work in shop conditions (i.e. fumes,
chemicals, dust) are required.
Qualifications:
The successful applicants will
possess an Alberta Journeyman Autobody Mechanic Certificate of
Proficiency. A valid Alberta Class 5 License with the ability to
obtain a "Q" endorsement is also necessary. A valid Alberta
Class 2 License is an asset and may be required in some
positions.
Desirable specialized training or experience include:
woodworking, welding, upholstering and frame and wheel
alignment; demonstrated mechanical, manual dexterity and
versatility are important considerations.

technical proficiency; work standards; and initiative.
